DB2 for z/OS Version 8 End of Service announced today

One of the big questions in the world of DB2 over the last year has been "When does DB2 V8 go away?". I guess there's a need for that official End of Service (EoS) announcement as an incentive to start their planning to upgrade (migrate) to DB2 9 for z/OS.

DB2 for z/OS Version 8 product publications have been refreshed (Oct 2009)

We (or maybe just me) spend so much time talk DB2 9 for z/OS, we often forget that we (IBM) still have customers running DB2 Version 8. With that in mind, I want to let all of my DB2 V8 friends know that 6 of your DB2 V8 product publications have been updated.

Here's one more APAR to keep an eye on (it's not closed yet). It's for DB2 Version and retrofits a DB2 9 function back to V8.

Can we talk about upgrading to DB2 Verison 8 one more time?

APAR Friday: zIIP related APAR to check out

Willie's "Getting the Most out of DB2 for z/OS and System z" blog. You all know how I feel about zIIP engines. to me they are almost as cool a sliced bread. However, as the evolve, adjustments have to be constantly made. Here's a APAR for DB2 Version 8 with just such an adjustment:

The clock just struck zero (0)

There's no time left for DB2 Version 7 support after

DB2 Version 8 publication update

I sometimes get a little carried away with what's new and forget there is another DB2 floating around out. Today's post is just such an example of overlooking some good stuff simply because it wasn't DB2 9. The news by the way is both significant and important IMHO. While trying to the locate the most current Program Directory for DB2 Version 8, I noticed that most of the Version 8 product documentation
